Make it Inclusive

If your employees feel that they are being forced to attend the event, they will be significantly less excited about it.
Choose the Right Time
As a rule of thumb, it’s probably best not to host the event at a particularly busy time. If your employees are busy at work on a lengthy and difficult project, the last thing they want is to be interrupted by a team building exercise. A great way to do this is to put out a survey for your employees, asking them when they are available. You can even ask them what kind of event they’d like in the survey as well! By doing so, you guarantee that as many employees as possible can attend the event.
